Recently we have seen a heightened interest in our sheer bras and bralettes, so we decided to take a look at this hidden gem of the lingerie world. A sheer bra can be a scary thought for many women, it is essentially the least amount of coverage you can achieve without taking your bra off. A sheer bra will show off the natural shape of your breasts, which by the way can be extremely sexy! Jessica Richards, the founder of Brooklyn-based cosmetics store Shen-Beauty, has a drawer full of lingerie: cotton briefs, lacy camisoles, and silky sleep-shorts. What’s missing? A bra of the push-up, underwire variety. “I just don’t see the point in wearing one,” the 31-year-old says. Richards would rather go au naturel or slip on a bralette—the less structured, more laid back style that’s become the underpinning of the moment. Sheer bras and bralettes have been featured my major designers on the runway. Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Dior sent model strutting down the catwalk in sheer and airy bras. Even Victoria's Secret, the brand best known for its cleavage-enhancing push-up bras, released a collection of bralettes and sheer bras this year. A well-made sheer bra can provide the same support as a underwire padded bra. All while avoiding the caged-in feeling common to other options. The loose material used in sheer bras is, of course, breathable and overall very comfortable, especially in warmer weather. We live in Florida so staying cool in the summer months is an absolute must! Many women even use a sheer bra as a go-to comfort option. Lightweight and flexible, it's possible to forget that you're even wearing one. We think it is refreshing and almost invigorating to get away from structured heavy bras with layers of padding and underwires. Sheer bras also offer much more of an opportunity for lacy details and body enhancing straps to be seen. They allow us to express our sexy side and incorporate our outfit of the day with our lingerie.
