You bought a bra and it's perfect, it lays on you like it's made custom for you. You love the cut, the style, the pattern and there is nothing bad that you can say about it. BUT. When you wear it for more than an hour you start feeling discomfort on your shoulders. The straps are not as comfortable as they were couple of hours ago. The reason can be that you have over adjusted your straps.
Bra straps ideally adjusted
Bra straps too tight
Bra straps too loose
Before I go in to explaining how to adjust the bra straps and what they are designed to do, let's make sure that you bought a bra that was made with you in mind. This mainly concerns full figured women. A good quality bra will have wider straps when the cup size goes up. When you are buying a bra, look at the larger cup bra and compare it to the smaller bra of the same model. You should see a significant difference in the width of the straps. If the strap width is the same on a large cup bra when compared to the small sizes the designer did not take women's well-being and just designed that bra for the look of it and that's it.
Bra straps should not do all the work when you are wearing a bra. When you buy a bra with straps, their job is to provide a lift of only 10% so when they are adjusted too tightly they have a bigger load to bare and that's why they hurt you. This happens when the size of a bra is not correct. When the band is too loose all the weight rests on the bra straps and that's not how a bra is meant to be.
A simple test of the correct band size is when you put it on with out the straps it should stay on and do most of the work with a touch of breast sagging. If that's accomplished, your band size is correct and the straps will provide the remaining 10% of lift and position your breast upward. So let's make sure that next time you put your bra on, your straps are loose enough to stick two fingers between a strap and your shoulder. A small adjustmeant can mean a world of difference and a comfortable bra can change your whole day.
